Mathew Horne breaks silence on James Corden feud rumors after 15 years

These rumors persisted for years, even after Corden moved to the United States in 2014.

Over the years, fans speculated that the pair had fallen out, but Horne has now set the record straight, calling the claims untrue.

In a new interview, Horne shared his frustration about the rumors. He said they made it difficult for him to talk openly about his friendship with Corden. “This idea that we had a falling out wasn’t true,” he explained. “It was a false story that got pushed on us.”

Horne and Corden worked closely together beyond Gavin & Stacey. They starred in their own sketch show and appeared in the 2009 comedy film Lesbian Vampire Killers. However, the same year, gossip started spreading online that the duo had stopped getting along.

These rumors persisted for years, even after Corden moved to the United States in 2014. He became the host of The Late Late Show and gained fame for his viral segment, Carpool Karaoke. Despite Horne’s attempts to deny the feud, he felt that people wouldn’t believe him.

“I couldn’t say much at the time,” Horne admitted. “James went to America, and the story just stuck. No matter what I said, people thought it was true.”

Looking back, Horne described the time as stressful. He told The Times: “It was a hectic period. I don’t want that kind of chaos in my life anymore. I’m grateful for what I have—a fun career and a lovely family.”

Although he’s tired of talking about the rumors, Horne said they still affect him. “I feel like I’ve been silenced. I couldn’t talk about James the way I wanted to because of this narrative people created.”

Horne also defended Corden against harsh criticism from other celebrities. In recent years, Corden has been called “the rudest celebrity” by Mel B and a name-dropper by Sharon Osbourne. But Horne believes much of the negativity comes from jealousy.

“The criticism he gets is unfair,” Horne said. “James is a talented actor, writer, and a great success story. He’s worked so hard to achieve everything he has. That’s why I feel protective of him.”

Horne praised his friend as a working-class star who made it big through talent and determination. He called the attacks on Corden “beyond flak” and added, “He’s phenomenally gifted.”

Fans of Gavin & Stacey can look forward to the show’s grand finale this Christmas. The 90-minute special will air on BBC One and wrap up the beloved series.

While the rumors may have taken their toll, Horne is focusing on the positives. He’s grateful for his career, family, and the chance to be part of a show that so many people love.

As Horne puts it, “I’m done talking about those 15 years of gossip. What matters now is enjoying the good things in life.
