Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, has strongly criticized Washington for its reported approval of Ukrainian missile strikes deep inside Russian territory.
This decision, made by outgoing President Joe Biden, has sparked outrage, especially as it comes just before Trump takes office in January.
Trump Jr., who campaigned with his father during the 2024 presidential election, expressed his anger on social media. He blasted the actions of the Biden administration, calling those responsible "imbeciles."
He pointed out that the military-industrial complex seems eager to push the world toward a major conflict before his father has a chance to bring peace.
“World War 3 might be on their minds before my father has a chance to create peace and save lives,” Trump Jr. wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “They’re locking in trillions of dollars, with no regard for lives. Imbeciles!” he added.
The decision to approve the use of American-made long-range missiles, known as ATACMS, marks a significant shift in U.S. policy. Previously, the Biden administration had restricted Ukraine from using these missiles to strike Russian territory, fearing retaliation. However, according to reports, Biden has now reversed this policy, allowing Ukrainian forces to use the weapons in Russian regions like Kursk, a city near the northeastern border.
This decision has been viewed as a way to boost Ukraine’s military capabilities as the conflict with Russia continues. With Donald Trump preparing to take office on January 20, 2025, there are growing concerns among Democrats, Ukraine, and European officials that the new administration might take a different approach. Trump has expressed doubts about continuing unconditional aid to Ukraine and has promised to resolve the conflict through diplomacy.
Moscow has warned that allowing Ukraine to use Western-made weapons on Russian soil could be seen as NATO’s direct involvement in the war.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that Russia will respond to any threats. Trump Jr. has also suggested that the Biden administration might be trying to escalate the war before his father assumes office, pushing the U.S. into a direct confrontation with Russia.
On Monday, Biden approved the use of U.S.-made Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) for Ukraine. These missiles have a range of about 190 miles and are capable of causing significant damage. Ukraine has been requesting permission to use these missiles for some time, especially after facing significant setbacks in the war with Russia.
The conflict has been ongoing for almost three years since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, which led to numerous civilian casualties. Despite the chaos, President Trump has committed to ending the war as soon as possible. In recent weeks, he has reached out to both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that he is the only one capable of negotiating peace.
Trump’s communication director, Steven Cheung, stated, “As President Trump has said on the campaign trail, he is the only person who can bring both sides together to negotiate peace, stop the killing, and end the war.”
While the details of Trump’s strategy remain unclear, it’s clear that he wants to take a different approach from Biden. Trump Jr. has played a key role in his father’s political transition, particularly in selecting cabinet members. His influence within the transition team is seen as important, especially as Trump prepares to take office next year.
The news of Biden’s decision to approve the missile strikes has sparked intense debate, with some fearing it will escalate the war, while others believe it is necessary to support Ukraine. However, Trump Jr. remains firm in his belief that this decision is part of a larger plan to destabilize his father’s upcoming presidency.
