Typhoon Man-yi was one of the strongest storms to hit the Philippines recently. It caused a lot of damage, including landslides, flooding, and destroyed homes.
The storm arrived in the eastern island province of Catanduanes on Saturday night. It brought heavy rain and winds up to 195 km/h. This was the sixth major storm to hit the northern Philippines in less than a month, making the situation even worse for many people.
On Monday morning, heavy rain and strong winds caused a deadly landslide in Ambaguio, a town in Nueva Vizcaya province.
The landslide buried a house, killing seven people, including children. Three others were injured. Local soldiers, police, and villagers are still trying to find three people believed to be trapped under the dirt, rocks, and trees.
In another area, a family of three was swept away by a strong river in northern Nueva Ecija. Their house was carried away by floodwaters. Rescue teams are still looking for them.
Typhoon Man-yi and earlier storms have affected over a million people. Almost 700,000 people had to leave their homes and find shelter in emergency centers or with relatives. More than 7,000 homes were damaged or destroyed.
Camarines, the province hardest hit, needs more help. The storm caused even more damage, knocking out power and water. Many areas also lost phone signals, which made it harder for people to get in touch.
Welfare teams have brought food, water, and other aid, but there is still a lot of need. Many people need building materials to repair their homes. According to Camille Gianan, a local official, “It’s been one disaster after another.”
