The Chicago Police Department arrived at the scene just after 2 p.m. Among the victims were four men and four women, with all three fatalities being men. Several individuals were taken to hospitals in critical condition, while others were reported to be stable.

Chicago police reported that the shooting took place at a "social gathering," though details surrounding the events leading up to it remained unclear.

By approximately 5 p.m., detectives were actively interviewing witnesses while seeking to identify the perpetrators.
