Trump’s 2020 election could have averted the 'Ukrainian crisis,' says Putin

President Joe Biden has announced that the U.S. will increase military support for Ukraine. This decision comes after Russia launched a major missile and drone attack on Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken shared this news on Wednesday. He said that the U.S. will continue helping Ukraine defend itself against Russian attacks.

U.S. Commitment to Ukraine

Secretary Blinken made this statement while speaking at NATO headquarters in Brussels. He said that the U.S. will "continue to shore up everything we’re doing for Ukraine."

This means that the U.S. will keep providing military aid, weapons, and money to help Ukraine fight off Russia. Blinken was about to meet with NATO leaders and Ukrainian officials to discuss the situation.

The U.S. is the biggest provider of help to Ukraine, offering financial support, military equipment, and strategic advice. This support is important for Ukraine as it defends its country from Russian aggression. The U.S. has also joined with other countries to punish Russia by placing sanctions on its economy.

North Korea’s Involvement

In addition to the Russian attack, Blinken warned that North Korea is sending troops to fight alongside Russian forces. Reports from U.S., South Korean, and Ukrainian intelligence say that up to 12,000 North Korean soldiers will be sent to Russia’s side. These troops will likely be sent to the Kursk region in Russia, where Ukrainian forces have recently gained land.

Blinken didn’t give full details on how the U.S. would respond, but he made it clear that North Korea’s involvement will lead to a strong reaction from the U.S. The U.S. is concerned that North Korea’s support for Russia could make the war even worse and bring more countries into the conflict.

Russia’s Recent Attack on Kyiv

On the same day, Russia launched another attack on Kyiv using missiles and drones. This was the first attack on the city in 73 days. President Zelenskyy of Ukraine said that Russia is increasing its attacks in hopes of stopping Ukraine from continuing the war.

The war is about to reach its 1,000th day, and the people of Ukraine have been very strong in fighting back. Despite the attacks, Ukraine’s military has done a good job defending their land.

Concerns Over Future U.S. Policy

As the war goes on, there are worries about how U.S. policy may change after the upcoming U.S. presidential election. Former President Donald Trump, who is running for office again, has criticized the way President Biden has handled the war. Trump has said that the U.S. should stop sending money to Ukraine and promised to quickly end the war if he wins.
