Alice Guo, a former mayor in the Philippines, was arrested in Indonesia. She was accused of being involved with criminal groups and running away from the Philippines to avoid getting caught.

Guo, also known as Guo Hua Ping, was once the mayor of a town called Bamban, which is north of Manila. But things changed when people began to suspect her of being involved in illegal activities.

The Philippine Senate wanted to talk to her about these accusations, but she refused to show up. She said she didn’t do anything wrong and claimed she was being falsely accused.

After leaving the Philippines in July, Guo traveled to different countries. First, she went to Malaysia, then Singapore, and finally to Indonesia. It was in Indonesia, in a city called Tangerang, where she was finally caught by the police late at night.

Serious Charges Against Alice Guo

Guo is facing serious charges back in the Philippines. The Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) accused her and 35 other people of money laundering.

This means they were hiding large amounts of money, over 100 million pesos (around $1.8 million), that came from illegal activities. The AMLC believes that Guo and her group were doing this to keep the money safe from the law.

Guo’s lawyer, Stephen David, hasn’t said anything about her arrest yet. But Philippine officials are pleased with the news. Justice Secretary Boying Remulla praised the hard work of the law enforcement agencies and the help they received from other countries in capturing Guo.

The story of Alice Guo started to unfold earlier this year when the Philippine Senate began investigating her. In March, authorities raided a casino in Bamban, the town where Guo was mayor. They discovered scams being run from a building that Guo partially owned. This caused a lot of anger among the public, leading Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ban online gaming operators who were suspected of having ties to organized crime.

President Marcos also promised to go after those who helped Guo escape the country. The authorities believe there are still many illegal online gambling operations running scams, and they suspect that public officials might be involved.

The arrest of Alice Guo is just the beginning of a bigger investigation. The Philippine government is determined to get to the bottom of this case. They want to ensure that justice is served and that those involved in illegal activities are held responsible.

This story shows how important it is for countries to work together to fight crime. The Philippines and Indonesia have shown that by working together, they can catch criminals and bring them to justice, no matter where they try to hide.
