Megan Thee Stallion has asked a Los Angeles court for a restraining order against rapper Tory Lanez, who is serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting her in 2020.

The petition, filed on Tuesday, claims that Lanez continues to harass Megan, even from behind bars, through surrogates.

Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was convicted in December 2022 for shooting Megan in the feet after a party. Despite being sentenced to 10 years in prison, he is still allegedly trying to harm Megan. The petition says he is using third parties, like bloggers, to continue spreading false information about her.

The court filing argues that Lanez has shown no signs of stopping his harassment. The petition says, "Even now, while behind bars, Mr. Peterson shows no signs of stopping." Megan’s lawyers claim that Lanez continues to torment her, even though he is imprisoned. The petition describes how this ongoing behavior is causing her emotional pain and trauma.

The harassment started long before Lanez went to jail. Megan has accused him of using online platforms to spread lies about her. The petition mentions that bloggers, working on Lanez’s behalf, have made claims that the gun used in the shooting was missing and that the evidence in the case is unclear. One blogger, Elizabeth Milagro Cooper, is named in the petition as Lanez’s “mouthpiece.” Megan is suing Cooper in a separate case for spreading lies about her.

Megan’s legal team argues that a previous court order to stop Lanez’s harassment is no longer in effect, which they believe is a gap in the law. The petition says this loophole is allowing Lanez to continue his attacks from prison.

Lanez was convicted of three serious crimes: assault with a semi-automatic firearm, having an unregistered loaded firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. In August 2023, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for these crimes. His legal team has appealed the conviction, but a judge rejected their request for a new trial.

Megan testified that the shooting happened after a night out at a party at Kylie Jenner’s house in Hollywood. She said that Lanez fired the gun at her feet while she was walking away from an SUV. Megan didn’t immediately tell the police who shot her, but she later identified Lanez as the person responsible.

The case has sparked intense discussions, especially in the hip-hop community. It raised important issues such as the struggle of Black women to get justice, the challenges of speaking out against abuse, and the toxic nature of online bullying. Megan’s bravery in speaking out has brought attention to these problems.

Since the shooting, Megan’s career has continued to grow. She won a Grammy in 2021 for Best New Artist, and her songs like “Savage” and “WAP” topped the charts. She is now one of the biggest stars in hip-hop.

Lanez, who started releasing music in 2009, also saw success in his career, reaching the top 10 on Billboard’s charts with his recent albums. However, his legal troubles have overshadowed his musical achievements.

Megan’s petition will be heard in court on January 9. For now, she continues to fight for protection from Lanez’s harassment. Her team hopes that the court will issue a new restraining order to stop him from causing more harm.
