Russia has warned its citizens not to travel to the US, Canada, and some EU countries during the Christmas period due to rising tensions between Russia and the US.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, said the situation between the two countries is getting worse. She warned that any Russians who travel to the US could be "hunted" by US authorities.

Zakharova blamed the US for the growing tensions, calling it a dangerous situation. She didn't explain which EU countries were safe to visit, but the message was clear: stay away from the US and Canada unless it is absolutely necessary.

The relationship between the US and Russia has been getting worse for some time, especially since the start of the war in Ukraine. Diplomats say the situation is now worse than it has been since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, which was a major moment in the Cold War.

The disagreement over the war in Ukraine is the main cause of the growing tension. Last month, the situation got even more heated after Ukraine used US and British missiles to attack deep into Russian territory. Russia also responded by lowering its nuclear warning level, making the situation even more dangerous.

Both Russia and the US accuse each other of wrongly detaining citizens. Russia claims that many of its citizens are being unfairly held in the US on charges that don't make sense, while the US accuses Russia of doing the same.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump, who is set to take office in January, has called for an immediate ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. He wrote on social media on December 8th, saying it was time for Russian President Vladimir Putin to act.

He even mentioned that China could help in the peace process. Trump said he knows Putin well and believes this is the right time for a truce.

However, Trump did not confirm if he had spoken directly to Putin since winning the election in November. He said he didn't want to do anything that might make peace talks harder.

His call for a ceasefire is his strongest attempt yet to end the ongoing crisis, showing that he wants to solve the problem quickly before taking office. This stands in contrast to the current US government, led by President Joe Biden, who has said that the US should not rush Ukraine into peace talks. Biden's administration has been focused on supporting Ukraine's fight against Russia.

On the other hand, Russia’s Foreign Ministry responded firmly to Trump's call for a ceasefire. Zakharova made it clear that Russia is not ready to make any concessions. She said that anyone who thinks Russia will back down on its demands is wrong. Russia's main conditions for peace include Ukraine not joining NATO and recognizing Russian control over four regions in Ukraine that Russia claims as its own.

The situation in Ukraine continues to evolve, and Russia’s spy chief, Sergei Naryshkin, recently said that Russia is close to achieving its goals in Ukraine. Naryshkin claimed that the Russian military has the upper hand on the front lines, and that the Ukrainian forces are on the verge of collapse. He added that Russia is winning the war and is close to achieving its objectives.

The world continues to watch as the US, Russia, and Ukraine are involved in this complex and dangerous conflict. The coming months could be critical in shaping the future of relations between these powerful nations. For now, Russia’s warning to its citizens is a clear sign of how serious the situation has become, especially as the Christmas holiday season approaches.
