The Syrian civil war has taken a dramatic turn as U.S. forces carried out a series of airstrikes against ISIS targets in Syria, while Syrian rebels have successfully taken control of the country, including the capital, Damascus.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that over 75 airstrikes were conducted against ISIS camps and operatives in central Syria. These precision strikes targeted ISIS leaders and camps to disrupt and degrade the terrorist group's operational capabilities. The airstrikes were part of an ongoing mission to prevent ISIS from taking advantage of the current issues in Syria. The operation involved various Air Force assets, including B-52 bombers, F-15 fighters, and A-10 aircraft.

The Pentagon said that the strikes were executed with precision and insists that it does not expect any civilian casualties. According to U.S. Central Command, the military is currently evaluating the damage from the attack.

Rebels Take Control of Damascus
In a major development, Syrian rebels have successfully entered and taken control of Damascus, marking the downfall of President Bashar al-Assad's regime. This victory came after a swift 10-day offensive, during which they captured crucial cities like Aleppo, Hama, and Homs. Reports suggest that Assad has fled the capital and possibly the country, with some sources indicating he may have sought asylum in Russia.

Liberation of Key Areas
The rebels' advance has been swift and decisive. They successfully took control of the Sednaya military prison near Damascus, releasing thousands of detainees. This action has significantly lifted the spirits of the rebel forces and underscored the diminishing power of Assad's regime.

International Reactions
The international community has been closely monitoring the situation. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed concern for the Syrian people and emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. President Joe Biden praised the regime change as a "fundamental act of justice" but also acknowledged the risks and uncertainties that lie ahead.

Humanitarian Concerns
The Syrian civil war has caused a significant humanitarian crisis, displacing millions of Syrians both within the country and as refugees abroad. Recent developments may lead to even more displacement and hardship. Humanitarian organizations are gearing up for a potential surge in refugees and are urging the international community to provide greater support to meet the urgent needs of those affected.

Future Prospects
The collapse of Assad's regime marks a pivotal moment in Syria's history. Yet, the path forward is filled with obstacles. Creating a stable and inclusive government will demand considerable work in reconciliation, reconstruction, and tackling the underlying issues of the conflict. The international community will be essential in backing these initiatives and preventing Syria from spiraling into more turmoil.
