Internet services across the country may experience slower speeds and occasional disruptions for about three days, from April 9 at 10 PM to April 13 at 6 AM, due to maintenance work on the SEA-ME-WE-5 submarine cable, one of the country’s major international internet connections.
Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC) has given bad news for the entire country regarding the internet.
The company has said that due to maintenance work on the submarine cable system, internet services may be disrupted for 8 hours a day for four days from 10 pm on April 9 to 6 am on April 13. During this time, slow internet can also be observed.
Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC) issued a press release informing about this information on Wednesday (April 8).
The notification said that a maintenance activity titled ‘S.1.5.1 Shunt Fault Repair’ has been undertaken by the consortium of the country’s second submarine cable SEA-ME-WE-5 installed in Kuakata.
This maintenance activity will continue for a total of 8 hours a day for four days from 10 pm on April 9 to 6 am on April 13.
During this period, as the activity is traffic-affecting, the circuits towards Singapore via the SMW5 submarine cable will be temporarily affected. As a result, internet subscribers may experience slow internet or partial service disruptions. While the maintenance activity is ongoing, service provision through other submarine cables of BSCPLC will continue as before.
BSCPLC says that during the maintenance activity, maximum efforts will be made to complete the work quickly and efficiently by coordinating with the relevant consortium, so that normal service can be restored within the stipulated time.
