US President Biden calls for humanitarian ‘pause’ in Israel-Hamas war

President Joe Biden expressed his support for a temporary humanitarian "pause" in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, following an interruption during his campaign speech on Wednesday evening by a protester insisting on a cease-fire. “I think we need a pause,” Biden said.
The call signaled a subtle change in approach for Mr. Biden and his key White House advisers, who have consistently maintained that they would not dictate the Israeli military's actions in response to the Hamas attack on October 7.
However, the president has been increasingly pressured by human rights organizations, other world leaders, and even members of his own Democratic Party who hold liberal views. They argue that the ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza amount to collective punishment and urge for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
