20-Year-Old Pregnant Woman Died in Wrong Treatment in an Unauthorized Hospital

Upazila Health Officer Md. Moniruzzaman and Executive Magistrate Tariq Hasan has locked a private hospital in Bamana Upazila yesterday morning as it does not have any certificate. They run this operation on the allegation of the death of a pregnant woman and her unborn child due to a wrong operation the previous night.

The name of the pregnant woman who died due to wrong treatment is Meghla Akter (20). He is from North Ramna village of Ramna Union of Upazila. Wife of Rafiqul Islam Tarek.
The chairman of this clinic named Sundarban Hospital and Diagnostic Center on College Road of Douatla Union of the Upazila is the local influential Awami League leader and Union Parishad Chairman Mizanur Rahman. He started various medical procedures including caesarean section here before getting his license.
Meanwhile, her father has filed a murder case against eight people including hospital chairman Mizanur Rahman and director Rezaul Islam at Bamna police station of Sagir Howladar village of Gudikata yesterday afternoon in connection with the death of the pregnant woman.
According to sources of the deceased's family, Meghla Akhtar was admitted to this hospital owned by UP Chairman Mizanur Rahman and UP member Rezaul Islam on Monday afternoon.
As the doctor was late in coming to the hospital, the hospital's resident medical officer (anesthesia surgeon) Dr. Sabuj Kumar Das started the operation himself. The patient died soon after induction of anesthesia.
Later, the hospital authorities, to cover up the incident, said that the maternity condition was critical and took the dead patient to Mathbaria Islamia Hospital for better treatment at night. But the hospital did not accept the body as the patient had died long ago.
After they took the dead body home to the deceased's father. After this incident, the owner, doctors, nurses and all the staff of Sundarban Hospital fled.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Moniruzzaman said, 'There are no valid documents for the management of Sundarban Hospital and Diagnostic Center. Their mistreatment has resulted in obstetric jaundice and neonatal death. So we locked it there.
The accused hospital chairman and Douatla Union Parishad chairman Mizanur Rahman and other directors could not be reached even after repeated calls on mobile phones.
Upazila Assistant Commissioner Land and Executive Magistrate. Tarek Hasan said, "We are taking legal action against the hospital."
