A fire broke out in the engine room of a ferry leaving Piombino for Elba. All 300 passengers were safely evacuated. Coast Guard and firefighters responded quickly.

A normal ferry trip from Piombino to Elba turned dangerous when a fire broke out in the ferry’s engine room. The Corsica Ferries ship, which had about 300 passengers on board, was quickly evacuated.

The fire started as the ferry was leaving Piombino port, with smoke coming from the vessel. The ferry was on its usual route between Piombino and Portoferraio, heading to the island of Elba.

The Coast Guard and firefighters responded quickly to the Piombino ferry fire. Passengers were evacuated using an emergency slide as smoke continued to come from the ship.

Tugboats from the Neri company were brought in to help, while three firefighting teams, three ladder trucks, and two air trucks managed the situation. Divers from Livorno and Grosseto, along with the Drago helicopter from the Cecina Fire Department, were also on the scene. Carabinieri and medical teams arrived to help with the ferry fire evacuation.

Despite the serious situation, no major injuries were reported. One passenger had a panic attack, and another had minor scrapes from the evacuation slide, but both refused to go to the hospital.

This Piombino ferry fire shows the importance of quick action and ferry fire safety. The Coast Guard, firefighters, and other emergency teams acted fast, stopping what could have been a disaster. While the cause of the ferry engine room fire is still being looked into, the safe evacuation of all passengers was a success.
