On Tuesday morning, as Biden was leaving the White House, a reporter inquired about his decision regarding the attack carried out by Iran-backed militants on Sunday. Biden confirmed that he has made a decision by responding, "Yes."
Biden's statement followed his earlier promise to take action and ensure that those responsible for the attack are held accountable, using a method and timing that is of his choosing. This attack caused injuries to over 40 soldiers.
When questioned about whether he holds Iran responsible for the attack, the president acknowledged their involvement by saying that they are supplying weapons to the individuals who carried out the attack.
The recent attack on U.S. troops in Jordan marks the first fatalities caused by Iranian-backed militant groups in several months, coinciding with the Israel-Hamas conflict that began on October 7. According to sources, a drone carrying explosives detonated near a sleeping shelter at a logistics support base in northeast Jordan, resulting in casualties and injuries. Eight of the injured persons have been transported out of the country for advanced medical treatment and are currently in stable condition, as confirmed by the U.S. Central Command on Sunday.
On Monday, the Defense Department identified the three US soldiers who were killed in a drone attack on a US military outpost in Jordan. They were Sgt. William Rivers, 46, of Carrollton, Georgia; Specialist Kennedy Sanders, 24, of Waycross, Georgia; and Specialist Breonna Moffett, 23, of Savannah, Georgia. These soldiers were part of the 718th Engineer Company, a US Army Reserve unit stationed at Fort Moore, Georgia.
During a briefing, Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh confirmed that over 40 persons were injured in the attack, with the possibility of the number increasing. The drone strike occurred in the early morning hours and targeted a housing facility where many service members were sleeping, causing in the significant number of casualties.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for launching drone attacks on various targets, including the Al-Shaddadi base in Syria, the Al-Rukban and Al-Tanf bases situated at the Syria-Jordan border, and the Zevulun naval facility in Israel. However, it remains uncertain whether they were responsible for the attack on American troops in Jordan.
Following the attack, President Biden expressed his condolences and called for a moment of silence during a church event in South Carolina to honor the "three brave souls" who lost their lives. He also vowed that there would be a response to the incident.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that the United States will respond to the attack over the weekend in a multileveled manner, with the response being implemented in stages and sustained over time. Blinken made this announcement during a joint press conference with NATO General Jens Stoltenberg.
National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby emphasized on Monday that President Biden is considering various options for retaliation, while also highlighting that the administration does not desire a broader conflict with Iran. Kirby further acknowledged that the United States is aware of Iran's support for militant groups in the region, including their provision of resources and information that enable these groups to carry out such attacks.

It is anticipated that members of the House and Senate will receive classified briefings regarding the recent attack on U.S. troops.
In response to the attacks launched by the Houthi rebels in Yemen targeting ships in the Red Sea and other pro-Iran militia groups attacking U.S. personnel and facilities in Iraq and Syria, the Biden administration has ordered airstrikes this month.
Lawmakers from both political parties have called for the president to seek congressional approval before taking any further military action.
