British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch is missing after a tragic luxury yacht accident off the coast of Sicily. The 56-meter yacht, called the Bayesian, sank during a violent storm near Palermo early Monday morning. Lynch, aged 59, recently made headlines for his acquittal in a high-profile Hewlett-Packard fraud case. He was cleared in June after a 12-year legal battle over the $11 billion sale of his company, Autonomy, to Hewlett-Packard.
The Bayesian had 22 people aboard, including Lynch and his wife, Angela Bacares. The Italian coast guard has rescued 15 people from the sinking yacht, with one body found and six still missing. The rescued passengers include British, American, and Canadian nationals, some of whom have been taken to local hospitals.
The yacht sank to a depth of about 50 meters. Rescue efforts are ongoing as authorities search for the missing people. Mike Lynch's spokesperson has not yet commented on the situation.
As the search continues, the tech community and the public are closely following this story. The accident shows the dangers of sailing in severe weather and raises concerns about maritime safety.
