The Democratic National Convention (DNC) 2024 starts in Chicago on Monday. This follows last month’s Republican convention in Milwaukee. President Joe Biden will speak on the first night, marking a key moment as he passes the torch to Kamala Harris.

Around 50,000 people are expected at the DNC, including 4,000 delegates. The convention’s theme is "For the People, For Our Future." While the full schedule isn’t out yet, DNC officials confirmed that President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will speak on Monday.

Monday’s theme is "For the People," with speeches honoring President Biden. On Tuesday, former President Barack Obama will speak under the theme "A Bold Vision for the Future." Wednesday’s theme is "A Fight for Freedom," featuring former President Bill Clinton and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi. Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries are also expected to speak.

Mike Waltz, Kamala Harris’s running mate, will officially accept the vice-presidential nomination on Wednesday. Harris will accept the presidential nomination on Thursday, with the theme "For the Future."

Harris will arrive after a bus tour through Pennsylvania. She will also hold a rally in Milwaukee on Tuesday, where Trump accepted the Republican nomination last month.

Typically, the convention includes a roll call vote to nominate candidates. However, Harris secured her spot as the presidential nominee earlier this month. A ceremonial roll call will still take place at the convention.

DNC organizers had to adjust the program after Biden dropped out in July and endorsed Harris. Ajay Bhutoria, a close aide to Biden, previewed the podium setup and shared excitement about the historic DNC event.
