Elon Musk met Justine, his first wife, during their college years when Justine was 18 and Elon was 19. However, their relationship faced challenges right from the start, leading to objection from Elon's friends and family who were against their marriage, as revealed by Elon's biographer. After eight years of being together, they eventually divorced.

Justine admitted to feeling like a "trophy wife" and grew disappointed with Elon's jet-setting lifestyle. It's worth mentioning that Justine Musk, a Canadian fantasy author, is also known as Elon Musk's ex-wife and the mother of their five children. Justine Musk, previously known as Jennifer Wilson, was born in 1972 and grew up in Peterborough, Ontario, located approximately 80 miles northeast of Toronto.

However, they stayed in contact even after he transferred to the University of Pennsylvania. He occasionally sent her roses and dined with her whenever he visited friends in Queens.
She wrote, for the first time, a boy found my ambition attractive rather than my physical appearance.
After completing her studies, Justin decided to teach English in Japan for a year. It was during this time that she decided to change her name from Jennifer to avoid its common association with cheerleaders. Upon returning to Canada, she took up a bartending job while working on her novel. She considered whether to go back to Japan or pursue graduate school, as described in her Marie Claire column.
However, things took a turn when she strengthen her relationship with Elon. This caused in her moving into the Palo Alto apartment he shared with his housemates and their dog.
Justin spent the majority of her time writing in her bedroom, which discourage other guys from hanging out at their place due to her grumpy attitude, as Elon shared with Isakson.
Their relationship was specify by frequent arguments in public, with Justin tells that Elon never hesitated to challenge her on her opinions. However, she found comfort in the fact that she could speak her mind without it disturbing him.

Despite disapproval from some of Elon's friends and family, including his mother Maye Musk, younger brother Kimbal Musk, and college friends Naved Farooq, the couple decided to proceed with their wedding in St. Martin, Caribbean, in January 2000. Prior to the ceremony, a warm argument begin between Elon and Justin regarding their unsigned prenuptial agreement, which Elon told to his mother, much to her delight, according to Isaacson's book.

According to Ashley Vance, a biographer of Elon Musk, Justine said that Elon desired to marry early and start a family.
Tragically, their first child, Nevada, who was born in 2002, died from sudden infant death syndrome. Justine tell her Marie Claire article that Nevada stopped breathing in his sleep when he was ten weeks old, and after three days on life support, his parents made the difficult decision to let him go. Justine mentioned that she was by his side as he died.
Despite their glamorous way of life, which involved attending parties with famous persons, using Elon's private jet, and residing in a spacious 6,000-square-foot residence in Bel Air, Los Angeles, supported by five household staff, their marriage was not a joyful one, according to Justine's account in Marie Claire.
Both of them ended their marriage in 2008. Justin expressed feeling shocked, yet strangely liberated. Being lonely, she decided to dye her hair black and give it a trim.
After only six weeks of the divorce process, Elon sent her a message informing her about his engagement to actor Talulah Riley, as said by Justin.
Justin further wrote that they have no regret over their marriage to Elon. She confirmed her endless respect for the exceptional and forward-thinking person he once was.
