Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris defended President Joe Biden’s decisions about immigration during a tough interview on Fox News. She argued that Republicans were to blame for not fixing the problems at the border and that Biden’s choices were better than those of former President Donald Trump.
Immigration and Border Control
During the interview, Harris was questioned about Biden’s changes to Trump’s strict border policies. The host, Bret Baier, pushed her to explain why Biden had rolled back some of these rules.
Harris blamed Trump and the Republicans for not solving the problem earlier. She said Trump told Republicans to reject a bill that could have fixed immigration issues because he wanted to make it a political issue.
Harris also responded to a sad story about a mother who lost her daughter because of a crime by an immigrant in the country illegally. She said she was very sorry for the mother’s loss but added that it’s important to focus on what’s happening now.
Harris pointed out that Republicans say immigrants are causing more crime in the U.S., but research shows that immigrants actually commit fewer crimes than U.S. citizens.
Defending Biden’s Leadership
Baier also asked Harris about President Biden’s mental fitness, which some people have questioned because of his age. Harris defended Biden, saying he is smart and has the experience to run the country well. She said, “Biden has the judgment and knowledge to be president.”
When asked if her presidency would be just like Biden’s, Harris said, “No, it won’t be a continuation.” She explained that she would come up with new ideas and work with both Republicans and business leaders to solve issues like finding more homes and helping small businesses grow.
Gender-Affirming Surgery for Inmates
Another tough question came when Baier asked Harris about gender-affirming surgeries for transgender inmates, including those who are in prison illegally. This means using taxpayer money to pay for these surgeries. Harris said she would follow the law and pointed out that these surgeries were allowed when Trump was president. She also accused Trump of being unfair by criticizing the policy since it existed during his time in office.
A Heated Exchange
Throughout the interview, Harris and Baier often talked over each other. At times, Harris seemed frustrated, but she stayed focused on getting her message across.
This was her first interview as a presidential candidate on Fox News, which is known for being critical of Democrats. Still, many Democrats praised her for staying calm and avoiding any big mistakes during the conversation.
Trump’s False Story About Immigrants
While Harris was busy defending Biden, Trump was facing questions about a false story he shared. During a town hall with Latino voters, Trump claimed that immigrants in Ohio were stealing pets and wild animals for food. This story has been proven false, and even Republicans in Ohio said it wasn’t true.
When asked about the claim, Trump said he was “just reporting what was said.” Harris responded by saying that Trump’s actions have hurt families, especially women, and that his comments about immigration are often harmful and wrong.
