A  man was arrested in London’s Leicester Square after a stabbing that left an 11-year-old girl injured and needing hospital care. A 34-year-old woman also had minor injuries. The attack happened on Monday in the busy central London area, popular with tourists and locals.

The police quickly said that the incident was not being treated as terror-related. This comes at a tense time in the UK, with recent violent clashes involving anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim groups. Right-wing activists have stirred up these disturbances, raising concerns across the country.

Leicester Square, a busy area with shops, theatres, cinemas, and restaurants, sees about 2.5 million visitors weekly. Despite the attack, police assured the public that there were no other suspects at large.

A brave security guard, Abdullah, was key in stopping the attacker. Abdullah, a 29-year-old working in the area, heard a scream and saw a man, who looked in his 30s, stabbing a child. Without hesitation, Abdullah tackled the man, took the knife away, and held him down until police arrived. Others joined him in holding the attacker. The police arrived within minutes and took the man into custody.

The 11-year-old girl’s injuries were not life-threatening, and she is getting treatment in the hospital. This incident has added to the tension in the UK, as the country remains on high alert after recent riots. These riots were sparked by false claims online, wrongly accusing a Muslim migrant of a fatal stabbing at a Taylor Swift-themed event in northern England. Authorities are still checking if there’s any link between this latest stabbing and the unrest.
