Melania Trump, the former first lady, recently shared her views on abortion rights. In an interview with Fox News, she said that she has supported abortion rights since the day she met her husband, Donald Trump.
Melania said, "I believe in individual freedom. I want to decide what I want to do with my body." She expressed her desire for the government to stay out of personal matters.
Melania Trump’s upcoming memoir, titled Melania, will include her strong views on women’s rights. The book is set to release on Tuesday, just weeks before Donald Trump runs for president again in the upcoming election on November 5.
In a social media post responding to news about her memoir, Melania said, “Individual freedom is a fundamental principle that I safeguard.”
She defended her decision to share her views on abortion at such a critical time in her husband’s political career. Melania’s stance puts her at odds with the Republican Party, which has been pushing to limit abortion access.
Public opinion polls show that most Americans support the right to have an abortion. Democrats have used this support to win elections during President Joe Biden's time in office.
However, many Republican-controlled states have worked to restrict abortion rights. They often cite their religious beliefs as reasons for these changes, especially after the Supreme Court ended federal abortion rights in June 2022.
During her interview, Melania clarified that her book was written months before the current political situation. “That was not written in the last week or the last month,” she explained. “That book was written months before, and it was in print months before.” She wanted to be honest about her beliefs.
