The Scream franchise is an American slasher series consisting of six films, a television show, merchandise, and games. An eagerly awaited addition to the series, Scream 7 was officially confirmed to be in the works on August 3rd, 2023. This film is set to continue the story from Scream VI and is the seventh installment in the iconic franchise.

Campbell, who declined to appear in Scream 6 due to salary negotiations, will be returning to the series under the direction of Kevin Williamson, the writer of the original Scream movie. She made the announcement on Instagram, sharing a photo of the script and revealing that Williamson will also be directing the film.

Neve Campbell recently reprised her role in the revive of the Scream franchise in 2022. In January, she indicated that she would consider returning to the role for the right price.

Director Vanderbilt is currently busy filming Nuremberg and will also be producing Scream 7 with William Sherak and Paul Neinstein. Radio Silence is executive producing.

The Scream project faced some setbacks recently, with Melissa Barrera being let go and Jenna Ortega and Landon departing due to scheduling conflicts. Campbell's return will now move the project forward, although a release date has not yet been announced.

After initially taking on directing duties for Scream 7, Christopher Landon stepped down from the role amidst escalating controversies surrounding the sequel. In a statement last December, he described the experience as "a dream job that turned into a nightmare."

Following the successful 2022 Scream relaunch, Scream VI was released in March 2023 and surpassed the original's record for the highest domestic box office gross in the franchise, earning $108.1 million. The film's global box office total reached $168.9 million.
