OK Diner Explains All About Its Parking Fines After Customers Complain About £265 Breakfast

OK Diner has responded to complaints about its new parking rules at its A55 Northop Hall location. The diner introduced a parking system managed by Smart Parking using cameras on May 1.

To avoid fines, customers must log their vehicle registration details on a tablet. By June, social media was filled with complaints from customers who claimed they were wrongly charged £100. One family said their breakfast bill reached £265 after fines for two cars.

The American-style restaurant, located at the westbound Northop Hall services in Flintshire, issued a statement addressing the issue. They explained the parking rules were to combat illegal parking, which had been a long-term problem.

Dafydd Lawrie, Director at OK Diner, said the restrictions were necessary due to nearby businesses with small car parks, like Starbucks, which made parking difficult for OK Diner customers. He emphasized that several signs in the car park and restaurant inform customers of the rules. Staff are trained to remind diners to register their vehicles.

The diner stated that the family who paid £265 had their fines canceled. Lawrie suggested some complaints might come from customers of other businesses. He assured that all genuine customers who contacted them with proof of their visit had their fines removed.

Lawrie also clarified that OK Diner receives no money from Smart Parking. He encouraged customers to contact the diner directly for help with fines. OK Diner values its customers and is committed to resolving any issues with parking penalties.
