The fire started on Saturday just before noon, with thick smoke pouring from the roof of Somerset House on the Strand. Photos and videos on social media show grey smoke rising above the River Thames and near Waterloo Bridge.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) got the first emergency call shortly before midday. Firefighters quickly arrived with 15 fire engines and two tall ladders. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported, but the cause of the fire is still unknown and under investigation.

Somerset House announced on social media that the site is temporarily closed. All events planned for Saturday have been canceled or postponed. The fire has also caused major traffic disruptions around the Strand.

This fire has raised concerns due to Somerset House’s historical importance and its valuable art collections. The building is a key cultural landmark in London, attracting visitors from all over the world.
