Two Russian pranksters tricked Poland's Foreign Minister into thinking he was speaking with Ukraine's former president. The video shows them discussing Ukraine and other topics.
On Thursday, two Russian pranksters, called Vovan and Lexus, pulled off a surprising prank. They released a video where they fooled Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski into thinking he was talking to former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
Vovan and Lexus have done this kind of thing before. They have tricked many important people from Western countries into talking about serious issues.
Some people think these pranksters work with Russian spies, but they say that’s not true. Even so, the Kremlin, which is the Russian government, gave them a big award in July for their pranks.
In the video, Sikorski is seen speaking in English. He talks about Poland’s support for Ukraine and some other topics. A news agency called Reuters tried to check if the video was real, but they couldn’t be sure.
A spokesperson for the Polish foreign ministry, Pawel Wronski, said the video was probably made in March. He wondered if the video was changed in any way before it was shared.
Wronski also said that Sikorski’s comments in the video were similar to things he has said before to other politicians.
“There’s nothing to be ashamed of,” Wronski added. He explained that Sikorski has spoken with Poroshenko many times, so it’s hard to remember if these exact words were said or what the situation was when it was recorded.
What’s interesting is that this prank video was released on the same day that Sikorski had a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. It seems like the pranksters timed the video to embarrass Sikorski.
In the video, Sikorski says he thinks it will take over ten years for Ukraine to join the European Union. He also says that some Western countries might use the idea of Ukraine joining NATO as a way to negotiate with Russia.
Sikorski made it clear that starting a war with Russia in Western Europe is something that should never happen. When asked about the possibility of Donald Trump becoming the next U.S. president, Sikorski said that he has spoken to people close to Trump.
According to Sikorski, these people told him that Trump might threaten Russia with more military action to push for a peace deal.
Sikorski is also heard in the video criticizing Ukraine’s efforts to organize peace talks with many countries. He thinks these peace conferences don’t work well to put pressure on Russia.
