On Tuesday, South Korea showed its strongest missile during a big Armed Forces Day event. The country’s president, Yoon Suk Yeol, warned North Korea that if it used nuclear weapons, it would face serious consequences. He said this could even lead to the collapse of the North Korean government.

This warning comes after North Korea recently caused tensions by showing a new uranium-enrichment facility and testing missiles. These actions happened just before the U.S. presidential election in November, and many believe North Korea is trying to gain attention.

Speaking to thousands of soldiers at a military airport near Seoul, President Yoon said, “If North Korea tries to use nuclear weapons, our military and the U.S. will respond strongly.” He also said that North Korea should stop believing that nuclear weapons could keep them safe.

During the event, South Korea showed around 340 pieces of military equipment. One of the most important was the Hyunmoo-5 ballistic missile. This missile is very powerful and can carry a huge warhead that can destroy underground bunkers in North Korea. It was the first time South Korea had shown this missile in public.

The United States also took part in the ceremony. A long-range B-1B bomber flew over the event, showing that the U.S. supports South Korea. South Korea also flew some of its best fighter jets to show its strength.

Later that day, South Korea planned a parade in the streets of Seoul, where soldiers and military equipment would march to show the country’s strength and boost the soldiers’ spirits.

In another big announcement, South Korea created a new command that combines its military power with U.S. nuclear weapons. South Korea does not have its own nuclear weapons, but this new command brings their military closer to the U.S.

Since becoming president in 2022, Yoon has worked hard to strengthen the relationship between South Korea and the U.S. He also aims to improve security with Japan to help deal with North Korea’s growing nuclear threats.

In recent years, North Korea has tested many missiles and even threatened to use nuclear weapons against South Korea and the U.S.

Last month, concerns about North Korea’s nuclear program grew after the country showed pictures of a secret facility where they enrich uranium to make nuclear weapons. This was the first time they had shown a uranium-enrichment facility since 2010.

South Korean officials believe that North Korea might continue testing missiles before the U.S. election to gain an upper hand in future talks with the new government.

Earlier in the day, North Korea’s vice defense minister, Kim Kang Il, criticized the U.S. for sending powerful military equipment to South Korea. He promised that North Korea would respond strongly. He also hinted that North Korea might test a missile that could reach the U.S. mainland.

This event shows the increasing tension between South and North Korea and the ongoing worries about nuclear weapons in the region.
