Tito Jackson, the beloved member of The Jackson 5 and brother to the legendary Michael Jackson, has passed away at the age of 70. Tito was a treasured part of one of the most influential music groups of the 1970s.
Born in 1953, Tito was the third of the nine Jackson siblings. He played guitar and sang backing vocals with The Jackson 5. Alongside his brothers Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael, Tito helped create unforgettable hits like "ABC," "I Want You Back," "Blame It On The Boogie," and "I'll Be There."
A Legacy in Music
Michael Jackson, Tito's younger brother, became a global superstar. He left The Jackson 5 in 1984 after the massive success of his "Thriller" album. Michael's death in 2009 left a huge gap in the music world.
Tito, though, continued to make his own mark. He was the last of the Jackson siblings to release a solo project. His album "Tito Time" came out in 2016. Even with his famous brother in the spotlight, Tito carved out his own place in music.
The news of Tito’s death was announced by his sons, Taj, Taryll, and TJ Jackson, who are known for their R'n'B/pop group 3T from the 1990s.
They expressed their sadness on Instagram, saying, “We are shocked, saddened, and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their wellbeing. He will be missed tremendously.”
They added, “It will forever be ‘Tito Time’ for us. Please remember to do what our father always preached, and that is ‘Love One Another.’ We love you, Pops.”
Tito’s passing marks the end of an era for the Jackson family. The Jackson 5, formed in 1964 and managed by their father, Joe Jackson, released four studio albums and sold around 150 million records worldwide. Their success helped pave the way for Michael Jackson’s solo career, making him one of the greatest artists in history.
In 1997, The Jackson 5 was honored with an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, celebrating their lasting impact on music.
A few days before his death, Tito shared a touching message on Facebook from Germany, where he visited a memorial dedicated to his brother Michael.
Tito wrote, “Before our show in Munich, my brothers Jackie, Marlon, and I visited the beautiful memorial dedicated to our beloved brother, Michael Jackson. We’re deeply grateful for this special place that honors not only his memory but also our shared legacy. Thank you for keeping his spirit alive.”
Tito Jackson’s legacy of music and love will always be remembered. He leaves behind his three sisters, Janet, LaToya, and Rebbie, and his four brothers, Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Randy, along with their mother, Katherine.
Tito’s life was a tribute to the power of family and the profound impact of music on the world.
