On Saturday morning, Ukraine’s air force reported a massive drone attack by Russia. Overnight, Russia sent a total of 67 long-range drones towards Ukraine. Out of these, Ukrainian forces managed to shoot down 58.

The Ukrainian air force quickly responded, deploying air defense units across 11 regions. The attack began shortly after 3 a.m. in Kyiv, the capital. Residents heard loud explosions throughout the city center, waking many up with a jolt.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, Moscow has launched thousands of missiles and drones at Ukrainian targets. This recent attack used Shahed drones, which came from different locations. The drones were launched from Russia’s Kursk and Yeisk cities, and from Crimea, which is currently under Russian control.

The Ukrainian Air Force was on high alert. They detected and tracked all 67 drones. While 58 were intercepted and destroyed, six others flew out of Ukrainian airspace. These drones moved towards Russia, Belarus, and a region in Ukraine known as Luhansk Oblast, which is temporarily occupied by Russian forces.

Three additional Russian drones disappeared from radar while still in Ukrainian territory. Ukrainian air defense units worked hard to respond to the threat. The cities affected included Vinnytsia, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Sumy, Kherson, and Poltava.

This latest attack highlights the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, showing how both sides are using advanced technology in their military operations.
