Unite for Peace and Progress: Dr. Yunus Calls to End Violence and Chaos

Nobel prizewinner Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, “If you trust and believe in me, make sure no part of the country faces attacks or violence.” Upon returning, he gave this message at a conference on Thursday, August 8, after arriving in Dhaka from Paris.

Dr. Yunus stressed that Bangladesh is one big family and everyone should work together. He called ongoing attacks part of a plot and said it's crucial to protect people from such chaos and violence. He added that disorder and violence are major obstacles to progress and urged that his advice be followed if needed. In the meantime, he just gets emotional by remembering the sacrifice of the martyr Aby Sayed. 

He promised to speed up the country’s progress and ensure the government protects and earns the people’s trust. He asked for no attacks and the protection of everyone, saying that with trust, the nation can move forward. 

He thanked the students who made this victory possible, saying they have the strength and creativity to build the country.

After medical treatment in France, Dr. Yunus returned to Bangladesh and is expected to take on his role as head of the interim government tonight. His flight landed at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 2:10 PM.

At the airport, Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman welcomed him. Dr. Yunus is scheduled to go directly to the State Guest House Jamuna.

After the 12th National Parliament was dissolved, the decision was made to form the next interim government with Dr. Muhammad Yunus as its head. This decision was made during a meeting at Bangabhaban on the night of Tuesday, August 6, with President Md. Shahabuddin, the chiefs of the three armed forces, and student movement leaders.
