Authorities report that a United Airlines Boeing jet lost a main landing gear wheel during takeoff from Los Angeles International Airport.
A United Airlines flight landed safely in Denver after one of its wheels fell off during takeoff on Monday morning.
The Boeing 757-200 departed Los Angeles International Airport just after 7:15 a.m. with 147 passengers and seven crew members aboard when it lost a wheel, according to a United spokesperson.
The good news is that no injuries were reported on the aircraft or on the ground, according to the spokesperson. The airline is investigating the cause of the incident.
This marks the second time this year that a Boeing aircraft operated by United has lost a wheel or tire during flight, adding to a series of mechanical issues and safety glitches.
Both companies have faced increased US government scrutiny following repeated issues. This month, Boeing pleaded guilty to fraud charges related to its response to two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019 that resulted in the deaths of 346 people.
