US appeals court permit California to ban guns in the most public places

The 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals has lifted a ruling that blocked a California law banning the carrying of guns in public places. This decision supports the state's law and dismisses the previous ruling that claimed it violated citizens' Second Amendment rights.
The law will be implemented at the beginning of 2024.
However, a three-judge panel has granted an administrative stay, which temporarily suspends the ruling until another panel from the 9th Circuit Court can decide whether to further prolong the suspension while the legal proceedings continues.
California's Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom signed a law in September, which was set to be implemented on January 1. This measure was a response to a significant ruling by the conservative-dominated US Supreme Court in June 2022. The ruling expanded gun rights across the country by overturning New York's stringent gun permit system. The court's broad interpretation of the Second Amendment, the foundation of gun rights in the US, led to the enactment of this new law.
Previously, California Attorney General Rob Bonta urged the 9th Circuit to temporarily halt the ruling, following an appeal. He argued that leaving the law blocked would expose tens of millions of Californians to an increased danger of gun violence.
Laws similar to this have also encountered legal challenges in other states. Just recently, a federal appeals court ruled on December 8 that New York State could prohibit gun owners from carrying firearms in various "sensitive locations," such as parks, zoos, bars, and theatres.
