A schoolgirl from Queensland left her family a heartbreaking six-word message before she sadly took her own life following struggles with mental health and bullying.
Isla Marschke, 14, died by suicide at her family’s residence in Bundaberg South, situated more than 360km north of Brisbane, on Tuesday.
Her mother discovered her in the backyard that evening and attempted CPR, but unfortunately, they could not revive her.
Isla had faced “terrible” bullying and had battled chronic mental health problems, leaving behind a brief note containing her phone password in her room for her family.
“I’m sorry, I love you, mum,” the note noted.
Isla was a bright and vibrant young girl, known for her kindness and creativity. She had a passion for art and loved spending time with her friends and family. However, beneath her cheerful exterior, Isla was battling inner demons that many were unaware of. She had been struggling with mental health issues and was a victim of relentless bullying.

Isla Marschke faced severe bullying, which worsen her mental health struggles. The bullying she faced was cruel and took a significant roll on her well-being. Her family had even taken her out of school in an attempt to protect her from the suffering she was experiencing.
The heartbreaking six-word note she left behind for her family is a obvious reminder of the pain she was facing. Her family, friends, and the entire community are now fighting with the immense loss and the unanswered questions that come with such a tragedy.
Her devastated mother Christie Jacobson said, "Accessing follow-up care was nearly impossible. I can't even express how often I sought help only to be met with a massive 'no.'"
During this period, Ms. Jacobson mentioned her daughter faced bullying and "issues within the family dynamic."
"But there was no clear warning," she clarified. "We’re all completely heartbroken."
The 14-year-old had been diagnosed with anxiety, OCD, and autism, and had been finding it difficult to fit in at school, deciding to switch to home learning three months ago in July.
"She'd been facing challenges for quite some time. Last year, two of her closest former friends began to bully her. One began posting TikTok videos labeling her a rat and similar things," her older sister, Ava, shared with the publication.
The 16-year-old stated she felt the need to interfere and tell the bullies to leave her younger sister alone.
"They were incredibly cruel to her."
Isla's story is not an isolated one. Bullying and mental health issues are common problems that affect countless young people around the world.
