After Sheikh Hasina's Resignation, Students Step Up to Rebuild Bangladesh

Students who took to the streets for their rights are now stepping up to create a beautiful city. Amidst the ongoing instability in the country following the government's fall, they have taken to the field to control traffic and conduct cleanliness drives.

After Sheikh Hasina's resignation, law enforcement and traffic control systems across the country have completely collapsed. The Bangladesh Police have announced a strike. In this situation, students have taken on the responsibility of managing traffic at various intersections in the capital and other parts of the country, with participation from the general public.

On Wednesday, August 7, an initiative began in almost all cities in the morning and is still happening. Students also clean graffiti off various city structures.

From the morning, students have been at the most busy intersections and roads in the capital with whistles. They are managing traffic and cleaning in different areas like Ganabhaban, Shia Mosque Mor, TSC area, ECB, Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Bijoy Sarani, Farmgate, Mirpur 10, Mirpur 12, and Karwan Bazar.

Students are taking turns managing traffic at these intersections. In some places, Ansar members also help. Members of Islami Andolan Bangladesh are managing traffic at several intersections too.

Similar scenes were seen outside Dhaka. Students from schools, colleges, universities, and madrasas are doing the same activities in Noakhali, Kurigram, Narsingdi, Jamalpur, Narail, Faridpur, Pabna, Gaibandha, Rajbari, Natore, Jhenaidah, Munshiganj, Narayanganj, and Sylhet.

In Noakhali, students have been working since morning to clear the traffic congestion in Chaumuhani Bazar. They also clean the municipality's roads and sidewalks.

In Kurigram, students of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement were seen cleaning debris from vandalism in institutions and roads. They said they would maintain freedom and seek public help.

On the Dhaka-Sylhet highway and roads in Narsingdi, students, locals, Ansar, and VDP members were managing traffic with sticks. They educated the public on using foot overbridges and stopped people from crossing the highway on foot.

In Jamalpur, students were cleaning roads and sidewalks and managing traffic. They started cleaning from Bakultala Mor by the Awami League office and called for the return of looted goods.

In Narail, students from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement started a clean drive from the old bus terminal. They cleaned debris from recent vandalism and arson in places like Narail Chourasta and the Narail Government Victoria College area.

In Faridpur, students held a rally from the Vanga Road intersection to Government Rajendra College at 10:30 am. They then split into groups to clean different parts of the city and manage traffic.

In Narayanganj, students cleaned up garbage on various city roads. From the morning, they cleaned streets in areas like Chashara and Jamtala, collecting garbage in bags and disposing of it in designated places.

In Pabna, volunteer organizations managed traffic on various roads. In the morning, volunteers helped with traffic on Abdul Hamid Road.

In Gaibandha, students cleaned garbage at the bus terminal, district administration office, superintendent of police office, and DB Road. In Rajbari, students from universities and colleges did cleanliness activities. Equipped with baskets, brooms, shovels, and bags, they cleaned from one side of the road to the railway gate area and ended at Boropool.

In Munshiganj, students removed bricks and burnt structures from roads. They cleared tires, signboards, and banners from the streets and cleaned garbage with brooms and shovels. They put harmful materials in black bags and garbage in white bags, taking them to municipal dumps. People of all ages joined this activity with enthusiasm.

In Munshiganj, students cleaned roads from the municipal front to the supermarket, from Kali Mandir Road to DC Park, and from the supermarket to PTI School.

Students said that any form of arson and vandalism is unacceptable and called for those who damaged public property to be quickly brought to justice. They expressed their commitment to building a beautiful Munshiganj together.

Additionally, similar cleanliness activities are being carried out in various places by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and students from various schools and colleges, with some participation from the general public. The local residents praised the students' efforts and came forward with water and light snacks to support them.
