Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, announced that the leaders would focus on the importance of maintaining open communication channels and finding ways to responsibly manage their competition while collaborating on shared interests, particularly in addressing global challenges.

In a statement on Friday, China's Foreign Ministry announced that President Xi would be attending APEC upon the invitation from President Biden.

During his visit, President Xi will also take part in the U.S.-China summit, which will be held in the San Francisco Bay area. However, due to security concerns, detailed information about the summit location was not provided by two senior Biden administration officials.

It is expected that thousands of protesters will gather in San Francisco during the summit. Furthermore, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng held a meeting on Thursday in San Francisco, as part of the ongoing efforts to reduce tensions between the two nations. The discussions between Yellen and He will continue on Friday.

It is anticipated that the Biden-Xi meeting will not result in significant announcements or resolution of the differences between the two nations.

Instead, President Biden aims to handle the competition, mitigate the potential conflict, and maintain open lines of communication. According to an official, this visit to San Francisco is believed to be Xi's first since his early days as a Communist Party leader. The agenda is filled with challenging matters.
