President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19, with mild symptoms, according to the White House.

Karine Jean-Pierre, his press secretary, confirmed that despite being vaccinated and boosted, Mr. Biden, 81, tested positive for COVID-19 for the third time after visiting supporters in Las Vegas and attending an event earlier on Wednesday. He subsequently canceled a campaign speech later that night.

Amid concerns over his age, there is increasing pressure on President Biden to consider stepping aside. Reports indicate that top Democrats like Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Majority Leader Hakeem Jeffries have privately expressed worries about his candidacy's impact on upcoming House and Senate races.

Following the positive test, President Biden plans to isolate himself at his home in Delaware while continuing his presidential duties remotely. His doctor, Kevin O'Connor, reported that Mr. Biden has mild symptoms in his upper respiratory system and has received treatment. Despite feeling well during his earlier engagements, he tested positive later in the day.

President Biden, known for his active campaign style, had been trying to reconnect with voters, especially Hispanic communities, whose support has decreased since the 2020 elections. His illness has interrupted these efforts, forcing him to cancel further public appearances.

The situation shows the uncertainty of the current election cycle, with Democratic voices increasingly calling for clarity on Mr. Biden's health and candidacy. While the president remains committed to his agenda, discussions about potential successors within the party have become more intense.
