A Delta flight from Detroit to Amsterdam was rerouted to New York's Kennedy Airport on Wednesday due to passengers being served spoiled food, according to airline officials.
The overnight flight departed Detroit at 11 p.m. Tuesday and arrived in New York at 4 a.m. Wednesday due to reports of spoiled food in the main cabin meal service, according to a Delta spokesperson.
Emergency medical responders treated 12 passengers upon arrival, according to the New York Fire Department. It's unclear how many of the flight's 277 passengers consumed the spoiled food.
Delta stated they would conduct an investigation.
"We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and travel delay," said the Delta spokesperson, emphasizing that this incident does not reflect Delta's usual service standards.
