Former intelligence chief Faiz Hameed is now in military custody. The army has started the process for his court martial. This is the first time a former spymaster in Pakistan has faced such action.

The army's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), announced on Monday that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had ordered a thorough investigation. The military conducted a detailed inquiry into allegations against Hameed related to the Top City housing scheme scandal.

According to the ISPR, the inquiry revealed multiple violations of the Pakistan Army Act by Hameed after his retirement. The army has now started a Field General Court Martial against him. This step also marks an effort to ensure accountability within the armed forces.

The inquiry began after allegations surfaced about Hameed's misuse of authority. The Top City management accused him of organizing a raid on their offices and residence. These serious claims led to the formation of an inquiry committee in April, which was led by a major general.

In November 2023, the Supreme Court directed that these allegations be taken seriously. The court warned that if proven true, they could harm the reputation of Pakistan's key institutions.

In March 2023, then-interior minister Rana Sanaullah confirmed an ongoing probe into corruption allegations against Hameed and his brother, Najaf Hameed. In March 2024, Najaf was sent to jail on a 14-day remand, along with other accused persons.
