Mike Gill was renowned for his unwavering dedication to improving the lives of others. He actively engaged in his church, formed meaningful connections with his colleagues, served on the District of Columbia Board of Elections, and selflessly coached his daughter's soccer team.

As said in his biography on the Housing Policy Council's website, Gill held the esteemed position of senior vice president of capital markets. The council expressed profound grief over the loss of Gill. Erica Richardson, a spokesperson for the Gill family, shared the heartbreaking news of the shooting incident.

The Metropolitan Police Department of Washington released a statement revealing that the violence transpired on Monday afternoon when an unidentified individual entered a vehicle, shot the male driver, and swiftly fled the scene. Gill's family confirmed that he was the unfortunate victim of this heinous act.

According to the police, the incident involving a Jeep Grand Cherokee lasted approximately three minutes. Afterward, the attacker attempted to steal a Mercedes-Benz but was unsuccessful. In his final act, the attacker approached a man and a woman, demanding their car keys.

Tragically, he fatally shot Alberto Vasquez Jr., 35, and escaped in a stolen Chrysler 200. The following morning, the attacker fired a single shot at a cruiser on Interstate 295, resulting in damage to the driver's side door and window.

The attacker, identified as 28-year-old Artell Cunningham, was later shot and killed by the police in New Carrollton, Maryland. Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown confirmed this in a statement. The authorities discovered Cunningham after locating a disabled SUV that had been reported stolen.

Cunningham was also implicated in two other carjackings in Prince George's County, Maryland.
