This Friday, Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is heading to South Korea. This visit is special. It might be the last time Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol meet as leaders.

The South Korean President’s office shared this news on Tuesday. They said Kishida’s visit is planned for two days. It’s his chance to end his time in office on a positive note with South Korea.

Kishida’s visit will be their 12th meeting. They will talk about improving their countries’ relationship. They will also discuss how Japan and South Korea can work together on global and regional issues. Kishida wants to finish strong, even though he is stepping down soon.

Earlier this year, Kishida’s party faced problems. They lost local elections and had a fundraising scandal. Because of this, Kishida announced he would resign after his party chooses a new leader on September 27.

Yoon’s office mentioned that Kishida will likely give advice to his successor. He will share his experience to help shape future relations between Japan and South Korea.

Since Yoon became president in 2022, he has worked hard to solve old disputes with Japan. His goal is to make South Korea’s alliance with the United States stronger. The two countries have been working more closely to handle North Korean nuclear threats.

As Kishida’s time in office comes to an end, this summit is an important moment. It’s not just about the past but also about building a better future for Japan-South Korea relations. Both leaders hope their talks will lead to stronger cooperation and friendship between their countries.
