Tech leaders condemned the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump during an election rally, saying political violence is unacceptable. Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying, "Our former President showed great courage under fire tonight. I'm thankful for his safety and sad for the victims and their families."
CEOs of major tech companies, including Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Meta, also expressed their concerns on social media, wishing Trump a quick recovery and condemning the violence.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said, "I pray for President Trump's quick recovery. My thoughts are with him, the other victims, and the Trump family. I strongly condemn this violence." Google CEO Sundar Pichai added, "I'm shocked by the shooting and loss of life. Political violence is unacceptable, and we must all come together to oppose it."
The attack happened at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was shot in the ear by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was later killed. A spectator also died, and two others were critically injured. Blood was visible on Trump's cheeks and mouth as he continued his speech.
Trump shared on his Truth Social account, "I knew something was wrong when I heard a whizzing sound and felt the bullet hit me." He added, "There was a lot of bleeding, so I realized what happened." He confirmed, "I was shot in the upper part of my right ear."
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from political and business leaders, calling for unity against such acts of violence.
