Laura Lynch, a founding member of The Dixie Chicks, lost her life in a head-on crash in El Paso, Texas, according to the police. The incident took place on Friday at approximately 5:45 p.m. local time, when Lynch was driving eastbound on U.S. 62. As another vehicle on the opposite side of the road tried to overtake a vehicle on a two-way undivided section of the highway, the tragic crash occurred. Lynch was 65 years old.
In a statement, The band, formerly known as The Dixie Chicks but now called The Chicks since 2020, expressed their deepest shock and sadness over her death. They further said that the memories of the moments they shared making music, laughing, and journeying together would forever hold a cherished place in their hearts.
According to the statement, Laura brought a vibrant energy and a sense of humor that uplifted the early stages of our band. Her passion for design, her deep empathy for everything Texas, and her essential role in the band's initial achievements cannot be overlooked. Thanks to her undeniable talents, we were able to progress from street performances to honoring stages across Texas and the mid-West.
Tragically, Laura lost her life at the incident site, with authorities saying that she was not strapped up. The other vehicle involved in the crash caught fire, while its driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was subsequently taken to the hospital.
According to Billboard, Lynch, along with Robin Lynn Macy, Martie Erwin, and Emily Erwin, co-founded the group in 1989. Serving as the upright bass player, she later shifted into a singer. Lynch departed after recording three albums with the band, and Natalie Maines took over her position.
