Rep. Lauren Boebert has won the Republican primary nomination for the U.S. House race in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District right after switching from her previous, more contested district.
In a significant electoral development, U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert won the Republican House primary after a change in Colorado's district boundaries. Boebert's successful campaign was marked by strong support from her base in the newly drawn district.
In two other closely watched Republican races, Attorney Jeff Hurd won the primary for the 3rd Congressional District seat currently held by Boebert. In the 5th District, political consultant and talk radio host Jeff Crank also defeated Colorado GOP Chairman Dave Williams.
Coming to Boebert, she gained national fame as a strong conservative figure in Congress with a tough political approach. Her influence helped her survive scandals last year, especially for a video that showed her vaping and causing a disruption at a "Beetlejuice" musical.
Even that’s not the end! She defeated several more traditional local candidates in the primary who had less name recognition and less confrontational political styles: former state Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg, current state Reps.
Boebert is expected to win the November general election in her district, which covers ranches, ghost towns, and conservative parts of the Denver metro area in eastern Colorado. These areas strongly supported former President Donald Trump in 2020.
She switched districts to ensure another Republican could win her seat after nearly losing it in 2022. Outside groups targeted her, and she became a major fundraiser for the Democratic candidate in her previous district, potentially flipping a traditionally Republican seat.
On election night, Boebert is seen arriving with reflective gold sneakers sold by Trump and a "Make America Great Again" hat. Despite controversies, some Republicans, like Gilbert Kendzior, 68, overlooked them, saying, "Nobody's perfect."
Even Kendzior supported Boebert for shaking things up and criticizing stagnant politics. Mainly the seat was vacant right after the resignation of the Former Rep. Ken Buck. Buck resigned due to current political divisions and his party's strong backing of Trump, which still impacts races like the Republican House primary in Colorado Springs.
In the 5th District, Dave Williams aimed to align Colorado’s GOP with the national party's far-right but faced criticism for his remarks on Gay Pride Month.
Jeff Crank, a traditional Republican, challenged Williams in the race to replace retiring Rep. Doug Lamborn.
In the newly redrawn 8th District, Republican Gabe Evans, a former police officer, won the primary. He will challenge Democratic incumbent Yadira Caraveo, who narrowly won in 2022.
In the 3rd District, Jeff Hurd, a less confrontational conservative, won the GOP primary. He faces Democrat Adam Frisch, who nearly defeated Boebert in 2022 and has strong fundraising in the Republican-leaning district.
