Liberal MP Calls For Trudeau To Step Down As Party Leader
Trudeau Faces Growing Revolt Within His Party

Liberal MP Sean Casey urges Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to step down, as calls for his resignation grow within the party. Trudeau faces internal revolt.
Sean Casey, a Member of Parliament (MP) from Canada's Liberal Party, has asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to step down as the party leader. Casey represents Charlottetown and is the first MP from Trudeau's own party to publicly say that Trudeau should leave.
Speaking to CBC News on Wednesday, Casey said many voters in Charlottetown have told him they’re frustrated with Trudeau. “People are telling me it's time for him to go," Casey said, adding, “I agree with them.”
Growing Frustration with Trudeau
Casey said that Trudeau’s leadership is a big topic when talking to voters in his riding (the area he represents). Many people, according to Casey, feel that Trudeau no longer listens to them. "People have had enough. They’ve stopped paying attention to him, and they want him to go," he said.
This is a big moment for Canada’s politics because Casey is the first person from Trudeau’s own party to ask for his resignation. However, there are rumors that other MPs might also be working together to push Trudeau out of leadership.
Trouble with India Adds to the Pressure
The call for Trudeau to leave his position comes during a tough time for Canada’s relationship with India. On Monday, India decided to pull its High Commissioner (a top diplomat), Sanjay Kumar Verma, and other officials out of Canada. This happened after Canada’s government said they wanted to question Indian diplomats about the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a supporter of Khalistan (a separatist movement in India).
India reacted strongly, saying that Trudeau’s government was making the situation worse for “vote bank politics,” meaning they believe Trudeau was making decisions to get votes rather than handle the issue seriously. This has made things even more difficult for Trudeau as Prime Minister.
What Does This Mean for Trudeau?
The fact that an MP from his own party has asked him to resign shows that not everyone is happy with Trudeau’s leadership. Even though Casey is the first MP to say this out loud, it’s possible more MPs are thinking the same and might join in soon. If enough MPs start to demand change, Trudeau could face real trouble as party leader.
Trudeau has led the Liberal Party since 2013 and became Prime Minister in 2015. But now, he’s facing challenges from inside his party and problems with Canada’s relationships, like the one with India. This situation has put Trudeau in a tough spot.
What Happens Next?
It’s still unclear how Trudeau will respond to this pressure from his own party. If more MPs start to ask him to leave, Trudeau might have to think about whether he should continue leading the Liberal Party. The next few weeks will be important to see how this situation plays out.
For now, Trudeau is still in charge. But with more people inside his party unhappy, his future as leader isn’t certain. He will need to handle this carefully if he wants to stay in power.
