The Met Office has issued a wind warning for parts of the North East, predicting travel disruptions early Thursday morning, August 22. This Yellow warning is in effect from 1 am to 9 am and covers Northumberland and western County Durham.

Strong winds could lead to delays on roads, trains, and at airports. Be careful along coastal routes and sea fronts, where spray and large waves may be dangerous. Morning commuters should expect longer journeys as bus and train services might slow down.

There's a slight chance of brief power outages or other service disruptions. This weather pattern is influenced by Hurricane Ernesto, which is bringing wet and windy conditions to the UK this week.

The Met Office warns of strong south-westerly winds early Thursday. Gusts could reach 50 mph, with some areas experiencing gusts up to 60 mph. These strong winds might knock down trees, especially since they are still full of leaves.

If you’re in the affected area, check road conditions or transport schedules before heading out. Coastal walkers should be cautious and keep dogs on a lead, as large waves can be hazardous even from the shore.

Expect light rain overnight, turning heavy by dawn over the Pennines. Thursday will start very windy with rain but should clear up later, bringing brighter weather in the east. Highs could reach 20°C.

Looking ahead, Friday will likely be wet and windy. The weekend might see brighter weather with scattered showers, but temperatures will feel cooler as autumn arrives.
