This news was announced by Bruno Retailleau, the French Interior Minister. Omar was living in a village in Normandy when he was accused of glorifying terrorism on social media.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Retailleau said that Omar bin Laden made comments in 2023 that showed support for terrorism. He called this situation a "decision of national security." However, the post did not say exactly when Omar was deported or where he was sent.

Retailleau mentioned that an administrative ban prevents Omar from returning to France for any reason. This ban adds to a previous decision made by the local Prefect of Orne, the area where Omar lived, to expel him from the country.

Life in Normandy

French newspaper Le Parisien reported that Omar bin Laden is now in Qatar. The report also said that he tried to appeal his deportation, but French courts denied his request.

Omar had been living in Normandy with his wife, who is from the UK, since 2016. They often traveled between the UK and France. The minister's decision to deport him comes as he prepares to meet with 21 prefects.

Each prefect is in charge of a different area in France. They will discuss immigration issues, especially how to manage a legal process known as "obligation to leave French territory" or OQTF. This process is mainly used to deport foreign nationals.

Recently, a tragic event sparked more discussions about this process. A 19-year-old student named Philippine was murdered in Paris. The suspect, a 22-year-old Moroccan man, was already facing an OQTF due to a previous rape conviction. This incident has made people more concerned about how deportations are handled in France.

Controversial Social Media Posts

On May 2, 2023, Omar bin Laden posted a controversial message on his social media account. The post, which has since been deleted, praised people who died for their beliefs.

It said, "History is written only with the blood of these people — to tell the story of these martyrs who made history, built nations, and brought glory." Investigative journalists later questioned Omar about this tweet during a podcast called "Hechos Reales" or "True Facts."

Omar claimed that someone else got hold of his Twitter password and posted that message without his permission.

He said, "I reported the Tweet to Twitter, and thankfully, the account was blocked." He insisted that he no longer has access to his account and that he condemns terrorism and violence. "I want to tell people I condemn terrorism and violence with all my heart," he added.

Omar bin Laden is not just known for being the son of a terrorist leader. He is also an artist.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he started painting and sold his artwork for prices ranging from €800 to €2,000. He even mentioned plans to open a restaurant.

Osama bin Laden, his father, was the founder of al-Qaeda and was behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001. This attack resulted in the deaths of nearly 3,000 people. Osama had a large family, with reports suggesting he had 24 children.

When Omar was younger, he lived with his father in Sudan and Afghanistan after Osama was expelled from Saudi Arabia in 1991. At the age of 14, Omar trained in al-Qaeda camps.

However, he left the organization in 2000. In a 2008 interview with ABC News, Omar spoke about his father's actions. He said, "My father is a very kind man... and he was very sorry when he did something like 11 September." He added that he disagreed with his father’s actions, saying, "I believe what he did was wrong."

Last July, French authorities raided Omar bin Laden's home and another location in the medieval town of Domfront.

An anonymous source said that he was under investigation for glorifying terrorism but was released once that investigation was over. When approached by a local newspaper, Omar denied any wrongdoing and called the rumors about him false.

The deportation of Omar bin Laden has raised questions about the effectiveness of France's immigration policies. As the French government looks to address security concerns, the case highlights the complexities involved in deporting individuals accused of supporting terrorism.
