Seeking a fifth term in office as an independent candidate, Putin urged citizens to participate in the voting process, highlighting the importance of each individual vote and the power of unity in shaping the nation's course. Emphasizing the people's role as the ultimate source of power as per the Russian Constitution, Putin called on voters to not only cast their ballots but also express their will and aspirations for Russia's progress.

He described the election as a key step towards the country's future, urging Russians to actively engage in brightening the direction of their nation.

He noted that the upcoming presidential election in Russia will be its eighth, indicating the commitment to the fundamental democratic principle of regular elections.

Putin also acknowledged the challenging period that Russia is facing, citing difficulties in many areas due to Western sanctions related to the Ukraine conflict.

He emphasized the importance of unity and confidence in order to successfully overcome these challenges. Putin noted that Russians have a clear vision for the future of their country and it is crucial to stay on course to achieve the goals that have been set.

The 2024 presidential election will take place over multiple days, starting on Friday and running until March 17.

The voting process will extend to the regions that Russia considers its new territories, surrounding parts of Ukraine currently under Russian control and subject to Russian legislation.

Putin declared his intention to run for another term in December and is currently facing competition from three opponents: Nikolay Kharitonov of the Communist Party, Vladislav Davankov from the New People party, and Leonid Slutsky of the Liberal Democrats. A recent poll conducted by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTSIOM) indicates that Putin is projected to secure 82% of the votes.

The total number of eligible voters for this election stands at 112.3 million voters. Additionally, 1.9 million citizens residing abroad and 12,000 individuals located in Baikonur, a cosmodrome leased by Russia in Kazakhstan, also possess the right to vote.

Typically, approximately 70-80 million people participate in casting their ballots during these elections. In 2018, the voter turnout reached 67.5%.
