Early Monday morning, Russia fired a lot of missiles at Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. The attack hurt at least two people, caused fires, and damaged homes and other buildings. Pieces of the missiles that were shot down fell to the ground, injuring the two people.

Ukraine's air defense teams did their best to protect the city. They destroyed over 10 cruise missiles and nearly 10 ballistic missiles.

This news was shared by the city’s military leaders on Telegram, a popular messaging app in Ukraine. Even with these efforts, the missiles still managed to do a lot of damage in Kyiv.

When the attack started, air raid sirens went off across the entire country. People stayed on high alert for nearly two hours. Finally, at around 3:30 AM GMT, the Ukrainian air force announced that the skies were clear.

Meanwhile, Poland, a country next to Ukraine and a member of NATO, activated its planes to make sure their airspace stayed safe during the attack. This shows how the conflict is affecting nearby countries too.

In Kyiv, the missiles caused a lot of problems. A boiler house at a water plant was partly destroyed. The entrance to a metro station in the Svyatoshynskyi district was also damaged.

This metro station is used as a bomb shelter, but it is still working. This district has many universities and schools, making the attack very scary for the people who live there.

Kyiv’s Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed that two people were hurt and shared more details on Telegram. He said that cars were set on fire in different parts of the city.

Also, a building in the Shevchenkivskyi district was damaged and caught on fire. Emergency workers quickly went to the districts of Svyatoshynskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Solomyanskyi, where pieces of the destroyed missiles had fallen.

These areas are very important to the city. For example, Solomyanskyi is where the main train station and airport are located. Svyatoshynskyi is a historic area on the western side of Kyiv, while Holosiivskyi is in the southwest.

People in Kyiv woke up to the sound of loud explosions. Reporters in the city heard many blasts, especially in central areas.

These sounds were likely from Ukraine’s air defense units trying to stop the incoming missiles. The loud noises added to the fear and stress felt by Kyiv’s residents, who have already been through many months of fighting.

This attack happened exactly one week after Moscow launched over 200 missiles and drones across Ukraine. That attack, which Ukraine called the “biggest” so far, killed seven people and damaged many energy buildings across the country.

The latest strike on Kyiv is part of a conflict that started 30 months ago when Russia invaded Ukraine.

Russia continues to say that it doesn’t target civilians, but the reality is that many ordinary people are getting hurt and losing their homes. The war is still going on, and the situation is very tense.

As Kyiv tries to recover from this attack, the people of the city stay strong. They rely on their air defense teams and the help of other countries. Even though the future is uncertain, Ukraine is determined to protect its land and its people.
