Sweden is helping Ukraine again with a big new aid package. On Monday, Defence Minister Pal Jonson shared that Sweden will send 4.6 billion Swedish kronor, which is about $443 million, to Ukraine.

This is Sweden’s 17th aid package. It includes important military equipment like ammunition for fighting vehicles that Sweden already sent. It also might help send Gripen fighter jets later, though this hasn’t been decided yet.

Jonson mentioned that Sweden wants to keep the option open to give Gripen jets to Ukraine in the future. This aid package is meant to help with Ukraine's urgent needs and to set up for future support. It has lots of equipment, gear, and money.

Sweden is now focusing more on buying equipment rather than just giving it away. The package has three big contracts for important equipment worth about 600 million Swedish kronor, or 52 million euros.

The aid package includes 500 million Swedish kronor, around 43 million euros, for ground combat gear. Sweden has already given Ukraine air defense missile systems. This package adds more Robot 70 anti-aircraft missiles to help protect against enemy aircraft.

Ukraine also asked for anti-tank weapons, so the package includes anti-tank shells, grenade launchers, and mines. It also has gear to protect against contamination, mortar ammunition, training materials for new soldiers, and winter clothing for cold weather.

For naval support, Sweden is sending 500 million Swedish kronor worth of help to protect Ukrainian ships and support ground troops along rivers where there is fighting. The aid includes six more Stridsbåt 90 boats and solutions for maintaining Ukraine’s Navy.

Sweden is also giving over 700 million Swedish kronor, about 61 million euros, to international funds and programs in 2024. These programs, with help from many countries, are good at buying arms and equipment.

The programs include temporary projects, like ammunition supplies, and permanent funds, such as the International Fund for Ukraine led by the UK. These efforts help coordinate and increase support for Ukraine.
