An engineer at Tesla's Giga Texas factory near Austin was injured when a robot malfunctioned and attacked him, according to two witnesses. The witnesses said the robot, designed to move aluminum car parts, pinned the man down before sinking its metal claws into his back and arm, leaving blood along the factory floor. The man had been programming software for two disabled robots in the area when the incident occurred.

Why Japan plans to permit schools to exclusively use digital textbooks from 2030?

Reports of more frequent injuries from robotic coworkers at Amazon shipment centers, lethal surgical robots, unsafe self-driving cars, and violent chess-playing robots have prompted concerns about the rapid integration of this new technology.

According to the report, the injured engineer did not require time off work.

An attorney representing Tesla's Giga Texas contract workers told that she believes the number of injuries suffered at the factory is being underreported, based on her conversations with the workers.

The attorney said this insufficiently reporting even included the death of a construction worker on September 28, 2021, who had been contracted to help build the factory itself.

According to Alexander, Tesla failed to report multiple worker injuries and one worker death in order to receive tax incentives, despite being required to accurately complete and submit these reports to the county.

A contractor named Antelmo Ramírez died of heat stroke while helping to build Tesla's massive Giga Texas factory, according to a report from the Travis County medical examiner. The 2,000-acre factory was under construction when Ramírez, a construction worker, suffered fatal heat stroke.

Last year, the Workers Defense Project filed a complaint with the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) on behalf of workers at Tesla's Giga Texas factory, alleging that Tesla's contractors and subcontractors had provided false safety certificates to some newly hired workers.

Alexander told the local NBC affiliate KXAN that workers reported receiving PDF files or images of certificates through text or WhatsApp when they needed training, sent within just a few days. Alexander stated that there is no conceivable way workers could have even taken the training required in such a short time frame.

The 2021 Annual Compliance Report for Tesla's Giga Texas factory briefly documents the bloody robot attack by a software engineer, although with minimal detail.

According to Tesla, the engineer did not require any days off from work to recover from the wounds that were inflicted on his left hand.

The Giga Factory is more accurately located in a nearby 'unincorporated' area called Del Valle than it is in Austin, as frequently described by news sources.

Bloomberg reported that Tesla received a $60 million tax break from Travis County and the Del Valle Independent School District.
