The number of BGP fleeing from Myanmar to Bangladesh has increased to 113

113 members of the Border Guard Police (BGP) have so far fled to Bangladesh, due to the ongoing conflict inside Myanmar. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) disarmed them and took them to safe place.

BGP has been running away from BOP in a conflict situation across the border for a few days now. Despite having sophisticated rifles in their hands, they are afraid of losing their lives at the hands of the insurgent group Arakan Army. However, BGB disarmed them and moved them to a safe place after they arrived at the Bangladesh border. And 15 shot people are being treated in the hospital.

Meanwhile, a Bangladeshi woman and a Rohingya citizen of Bandarban were killed by a mortar shell fired from Myanmar. The incident took place in the Jalpaitli area of Ward No. 4 of Ghumdhum UP of Naikxyongchari Upazila on Monday (February 5) afternoon. The deceased Hashina Begum (52) is the wife of Badsha Mia of that area. Besides, the identity of the Rohingya man killed (55) is not known.

Several mortar shells fell in Tambru area of Naikshyongchari during the shelling on Sunday. One named Prabir Dhar son of Yudhisthira Dhar of that area was injured.

Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina has ordered the Bangladesh Armed Forces and BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) to be patient on the Myanmar issue. Law Minister Anisul Haque said this in response to a supplementary question by Jatiya Party Secretary General Mojibul Haque Chunnu during the Jatiya Sangsad question and answer session on Monday (February 5).

Law Minister Anisul Haque said that a discussion with Myanmar has been ordered through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh. We are talking about that discussion and what other measures can be taken if they (BGP members) are sent back or not sent back. As happened yesterday (Sunday), one of us died in a mortar shell. One of them also died.

Bangladesh is monitoring this ongoing situation very closely.

Stating the directives of the Prime Minister regarding border tension, the Law Minister said that the Prime Minister has instructed our armed forces or paramilitary forces (BGB) to exercise patience. Keeping in mind the safety of the students, arrangements have been made to close some educational institutions on the border.

On Monday, the Myanmar media Irrawaddy reported that the rebels had captured several other military bases. Besides, at least 62 soldiers of the country lost their lives in the hands of the rebels in the last three days. The country's ethnic insurgents have stepped up attacks across Myanmar.
