Former President Donald Trump recently said that after the upcoming election, the biggest threat to the United States will come from “radical-left lunatics” within the country.
He believes this threat is more dangerous than any foreign enemies, even those on terrorist watch lists.
Trump shared his thoughts during an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News. He said, “The bigger problem is the enemy from within.” He believes that the real danger is already here in America.
When asked about “outside agitators” affecting a peaceful transfer of power if he wins, Trump said he doesn't think they will be a problem.
He mentioned that 50,000 Chinese nationals recently arrived in the U.S. and that border agents have caught some suspected terrorists. But he believes these people won’t cause problems on election day. “You also won’t see any issues from the side that votes for Trump,” he added.
Trump explained that the real concern is from people inside the U.S. He called them “very bad people” and “sick people.” He believes that any problems that come up between election day and inauguration day can be handled. He suggested that the National Guard or the military could step in if necessary.
He said the threat from within the country is more serious than problems with countries like China or Russia. Trump mentioned, “If you have a smart president, he can handle them easily. But the thing that’s tougher to handle are these lunatics that we have inside.”
The Harris-Walz campaign quickly responded to Trump’s comments. Ian Sams, a spokesperson for the campaign, warned that Trump sees some voters as enemies. He said that Trump’s comments suggest he would use the military against those voters.
Sams also pointed out that Trump has talked about wanting to “terminate” the Constitution and plans to gather supporters who would give him a lot of power. He believes this is dangerous and returning Trump to office would risk the freedom and safety of all Americans.
Trump's comments came after he promised that if he is re-elected, he would use an old law called the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. This law allows the president to remove people aged 14 and older from the U.S. without a trial. Trump said he would start the “largest mass deportation operation in history.”
He called this plan “OPERATION AURORA” and said it would target and get rid of “savage gang” members and illegal criminal networks in the U.S.
On the Sunday talk shows, both Republican and Democratic vice presidential nominees also shared their opinions. U.S. Senator JD Vance defended Trump’s comments about Aurora, Colorado, but he avoided saying whether he thinks Trump lost the 2020 election. Vance suggested that the election was “rigged.” He said, “If we want to restore trust in American elections and democracy, we have to talk openly about what happened in 2020.”
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also spoke on Fox News. He accused Trump of targeting American cities for his political gain. Walz mentioned that Trump even threatened not to send disaster aid to states that do not vote for him. He said, “Kamala Harris wants to be a president for all Americans. She is not going to divide states based on where they’re at.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson talked about the upcoming election on Meet the Press. He assured people that Congress will certify the 2024 election results, even if Trump loses. However, he added that this will happen only if the election is “free and fair.” He expressed hope that the election will be fair and said that there is a lot of work being done to make sure it is.
Johnson showed confidence that Trump will win. He said, “I think Donald J. Trump is your next president, and that can’t happen soon enough.”
